VARAŽDIN AND TRAKOŠĆAN
|
|
A jewel of harmony and intimacy, the charm of Varaždin or how we love to
call it - “Croatia’s Vienna”, lies not only in its architecture, but
also in its atmospheric squares and lovely streets. The buildings,
museums, music and flowers of Varaždin continue to offer a relaxing
break from everyday life.
The city's rich history spans eight centuries. It was home to the
region’s wealthiest nobles, landowners, artisans and artists, especially
in the late 1700s, when the city flourished and was even the capital of
Croatia.
Trakošćan, the most beautiful castle in Croatia. Restored in the early
1800s by Juraj Draskovic is now kept as an example of an unspoilt
romantic park and aristocratic residence. Particularly worth seeing are
the knights' and the hunt-rooms, the music-salon, the painter Julijana
Erdoedy’s studio, the armoury collection with pieces from the 15th to
the 19th Century, and—made especially for the restoration—the
furnishings, now placed alongside examples from earlier centuries.

OPATIJA
|
|
Opatija is a fashionable Adriatic tourist resort. In the past it was a
summer and winter destination for the Austro-Hungarian nobility because
of its mild Mediterranean climate, and today it is a place of luxury
hotels, former villas and private summer residences that have been
turned into beautiful hotels, wellness centres, congress halls, and
swim.
Opatija’s close neighbour, city of Rijeka, one of the largest Central
European ports and until recently a powerful industrial centre, Rijeka
provides many opportunities. Discover a city of history, culture and
crazy fun! Walk the central town squares, Korzo, visit the Old Town, the
Shrine to Mother of God on Trsat, and in the evening, visit the
theatre, stop in one of the top restaurants and then finish the evening
dancing to rhythms in one of the many clubs that guarantee a great night
out...
The most recognisable image of Rijeka is surely Trsat, a medieval
fortified town built by the Croatian Frankopan princes and the famous
Marian shrine.

SPLIT
|
|
This eternally young city with around 200 thousand inhabitants has lived
its urban rhythm for 1700 years with Diocletian's palace at its heart,
which is also the historical centre of the city and a UNESCO world
heritage site. The Cathedral of sv. Dujam [St. Domnios], the patron
saint of Split, is located in the mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian, and
its sumptuous interior is a gathering place for many of the faithful and
tourists. Many valuable monuments of culture are located outside the
walls of Diocletian's Palace (Renaissance Prokurative Square, palaces,
churches, museums...).
Located in the warmest part of the northern Mediterranean coast, in the
very centre of the Adriatic coast, this tourist, economic and sports
(Goran Ivanišević, Branka Vlasic, Toni Kukoč) region guards its green
soul on Marjan hill, where a forest park near the city offers a
comfortable and quiet atmosphere and a walk far from the town noise.
The rich offer for tourists as well as the unique cultural heritage and
many cultural and tourist events gives Split its special charm and makes
it an ideal holiday destination throughout the year.
